New York, NY asked in Immigration Law for New York

Q: I arrived 2014 and I've not received my green card yet, on my passport I have a I-551 stamp, can I re-enter using it?

I came on September 2014 and my green card hasn't arrived yet, but on my passport I have a I-551 stamp. I was planning to travel this summer but I was afraid that I might not be able to re-enter the US.

A: If your I-551 passport stamp has not expired, you should be able to use it to reenter the US, but it would be a very good idea to contact USCIS and find out why your green card has not arrived after more than 2 years. The normal time is up to 120 days from entry to the US with your immigrant visa, or no more than about 30 days if you were approved for adjustment of status in the US,

A: If your biometrics have been completed and your passport has not expired, your I-551 stamp is still only valid for one year after it was issued. I recommend that you find an immigration attorney who can inquire into your status.
