Ocala, FL asked in Divorce for Florida

Q: Am I screwed out of our money?

Hi, I am in the beginning stages of divorcing my husband. We have a unique case in that my husband handled all of our finances and when he left me, he left me with an empty bank account and I have essentially no paper trail for our money. I trusted him and he handled all the money we had saved in New York working. We had money in cash in a safe as well as money overseas in his Irish account. (He is from Ireland). I do not think there is any hope of getting any money back but my brother advised me to reach out to an attorney anyway. He left me and is in Detroit working in property management with his friends from Ireland. I have a feeling that is where he put all of our money, as he discussed investing with them when we were still together. If nothing can be done about the money, I just need guidance in divorcing him. He is out of state so I am not sure if that makes a difference. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A: He can run, but he cannot hide. You could hire a forensic accountant to find all of the assets. That's what forensics do; however, you have to do a risk/benefit analysis. Do you want to pay the accountant $100,000 to find $50,000 in assets?
