Sacramento, CA asked in Civil Rights, Family Law and Juvenile Law for California

Q: What ways can a California 17 year old move out of their parents house if it is an unstable environment?

I am 17 years old and have been undergoing mental/emotional abuse from my dad ever since I found out he is not my biological father when I was 15. There has also been small physically abusive moments. I want to move out as soon as possible without having to go through the emancipation process. I have a stable environment to stay and I have a stable , paying job. I will continue to go to school and further my education. My mother has full custody of me and he has no parental rights because he never even adopted me. What are my options for moving out and/or just getting away from him?

A: You can file for emancipation. You can report abuse to the police and to CPS. More details are necessary to provide a professional analysis of your issue. The best first step is an Initial Consultation with an Attorney.
