Q: How much do it cost to get a divorce?

My husband is not going to contest I moved out of the house and I do not want any thing to do with the house just want my name off of the house, so how can I do that?

A: I do not know what county you live in, and this would have some effect on how much your divorce might cost. Offhand, I think it is safe to say that you should be able to get it done for about $2,000, plus court costs.

Getting you name off of the house is easy. You just sign a deed giving your husband sole title. However, getting your name off of the mortgage is not easy al all. You are divorcing your husband; you are not divorcing the lender. This means you will still be responsible for the mortgage payments. This is where a lawyer comes in handy. Consult with one in person and learn your rights and exposure..
