Q: As a green card holder, can I file for my parent's green card? What process should I follow?

A: To petition for your parents (mother or father) to live in the United States as green card holders, you must be a U.S. citizen and at least 21 years old. Green card holders (permanent residents) may not petition to bring parents to live permanently in the United States.

So, if you are over 21, your first step would be to become a US citizen. Once this is completed, in the most general terms, the second step would be filling an I-130.

However, please consult an immigration attorney before you start anything. Every circumstance is different and there may be some details in your case that may make you or your parents ineligible or may require special attention.
