I won a substantial amount of money. My attorney visited me in jail, showed me my check and put it on my property, the jail put it in a safe deposit box. When I got out of jail they put me on probation and forwarded my settlement check to my probation officer who put it in a safe-deposit box as well. I have been out of jail for a year and still have about two to three more years of probation left. It's been like pulling teeth to retrieve my check. I've been doing everything they ask and have been staying out of trouble. Is it legal for them to hold my settlement check because I'm on probation and give it to me whenever they feel like it?
