Toledo, OH asked in Divorce for Ohio

Q: My wife moved out of our marital home 2 years ago without telling anyone. She was having an affair with a married man.

She is currently involved in their divorce case because of her affair. She has lived on her own for the past two years, beyond her means (renting houses that cost more than our mortgage ever did, traveling all over with her boyfriend& paying for it - she did that while still living with me since this was a 5 year affair, shopping non stop). I had since moved on and have a live in girlfriend and a new baby with my girlfriend. My wife and I have 4 kids, almost all grown and have been married for 28 years. We are finally getting around to the divorce process and she wants support. She was at one time making the same money, if not more, than I was but lost her job due to her affair. Because of her affair she had to take a job out of state because of the situation. She also has higher education than I do (a masters and I have no college degree) which I paid for. How will this play out? We are trying to work on a dissolution because of costs.

A: There is no way to predict. There are a lot of different factors to consider. Use the Find a Lawyer tab and consult a local family law attorney who can review all the facts and the income history, and perhaps estimate a ball park range. But if you and she cannot agree and do a dissolution, then it will have to proceed as a divorce, and the court will decide.
