Frederick, MD asked in Probate for Maryland

Q: Do I have rights to retrieve my belongings from my grandmother's house after she passed away?

My grandmother passed away last week at 81 years old. A year ago my aunt kicked my children and I out of her house (where we lived for ten years) working under "power of attorney". My family relations have been very messy the past couple of years. Most of the possessions of mine and my children's are still at he house. My family won't allow me to see the will or access our belongings. I am told that the estate will be appraised and put up for auction in three days. All I want are the items that I purchased and belonged to myself and my kids to begin with.

A: You need a lawyer. Can you afford one? What is the net value of the items belonging to you? If you send an email, I'll try to understand your situation and set up a consult if the case is in the DC suburbs.
