Boone, NC asked in Divorce for North Carolina

Q: How do I get divorced from my husband after of almost 2 years and we have only lived together for a month?

1st 19 months of marriage we've never lived in the same state with each other. He lived in Alabama while I lived in Louisiana. I quickly saw unsettling signs about him that was just too much for me so I cut off communication. 17 months later he started calling again. By this time he was in NC, I was in Texas. 2 months later we agreed on my moving to N.C. to see if we can work on this marriage. Things got worse and we have only lived together for 1 month. It's time for a real divorce now. No kids, no property and he deliberately signed this lease for this room that he is renting out for $400 a month without having me sign with him. What is the quickest way out of this marriage?

A: You had what you needed to get divorced in NC before you moved here but because you decided to try and make the marriage work and reside together for a month, you now have to wait an additional year to get divorced in NC. Since you have not established residency here you may want to check the rules in the state where you lived prior.
