Q: I bought my daughter a car, insured by her and crashed by her. I own the loan, am I liable?
The car loan was in my name and the insurance (which had lapsed 2 days prior due to non-payment without my knowledge) was in hers. Her friend was driving the car and went off the road and flipped it . There were other passengers in the car. What am I going to be liable for as the owner of the car?
A: If her name is on the registration, breathe a sigh of relief. If your name is on it then you would normally have the insurance obligation,so things get hairy. Short answer--if your name was on the car but for some reason insurance in her name, then you have problems and should contact a lawyer.
