Nashville, TN asked in Contracts for Tennessee

Q: If I never signed a contract, am I able to get a deposit back from a wedding vendor that I cancelled services with?

I just cancelled my wedding. When I asked my photographer for my $1,500 deposit back she said no. I paid this with my credit card and while the contract did state that it was nonrefundable, I never signed it and it was separate from the invoice I paid. The invoice did not include those terms. Can I dispute and get my money back?

A: This is a tough one. I am sorry in regard to the need to cancel a wedding- and to compound it with a vendor who won't give you your money back. If you paid the deposit knowing whether in writing or otherwise that the terms were the deposit is non-refundable then that may be a problem. If you didn't know at the time you paid the deposit then you may have a right to have the money back. You may want to communicate with your credit card company if you are still within the dispute period for your card.
