Q: I am trying to find out if it is legal for a tow company to boot a vehicle on private property as soon as you pull into

I am the main provider for my family. I travel a lot and had the opportunity for the first time to take my kids to school. My son and daughter go to charter school here in Riverview, FL. My son starts school at 7:45am and my daughter starts at 8:30am and the schools are across street from each other. I pulled into the local subway in a strip center and was going to let my son out and proceed to the subway to get a coffee and breakfast with my daughter. Before we could get out of vehicle(we were in parking lot for less than a minute). A unmarked pickup truck blocked me into spot and passenger got out and put a boot on my tire. The driver got out and told me that it was private property and you could not park there and it would be $95 to remove boot. They never asked me if I was stopping at one of the business and were very unprofessional. I ended up paying the fee after arguing and them not choosing to listen. I understand their was towing signs of in authorized. They never

A: Honestly, what you describe sortof sounds like a scam, but in the long run you probably got done with it the best way possible and likely the cheapest. You might report the incident to the police to see if they have encountered similar complaints.

Typically parking in a common unit parking lot would take days of not moving the vehicle to get a boot or be towed.
