Arlington, TX asked in Civil Litigation, Contracts and Landlord - Tenant for Texas

Q: Can you sue someone over a verbal agreement if they promised to pay the bills for a Tennant who broke lease.

My aunt agreed to pay the bills from a Tennant who was renting out the apartment I'm currently living in. The Tennant agreed and broke their lease in order for my aunt to move in. Later, she left and my sister and I took over the apartment with a new lease and new owner. Now the previous Tennant wants us to pay the bills so that she can disconnect them and transfer them to her new place. She's threatening to sue if we don't because we technically did use the utilities. Can she?
