Ringgold, GA asked in Child Custody for Georgia

Q: How can I get my childs passport if her dad has never been there? He signed the birth certificate.

We were never married and he got arrested when she was 4 months old and they deported him. Never knew anything from him again. She is 10 now and I tried one time to apply for one but they keep on asking me that I need him to sign for permission to get it. What can I do? He did sign an acknowledgment when she was born. From what I know I’m suppose to have full custody since we were never married but how can I let the passport agent know that? Also I have been married for 9 years now. Which my daughter says her stepdad is her dad. She doesn’t know nothing about her biological father.

A: You have to get him to sign, or go to court to get an order allowing you to obtain a passport without him. You should speak to an experienced family law attorney to do this.
