Pleasanton, CA asked in Real Estate Law, Civil Rights and Constitutional Law for California

Q: What are the Proselytizing laws for the state of California?

We are Missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and have recently been kicked out of neighborhoods and apartment complexes for proselytizing, which is commonly mistaken for Soliciting, and we just want to make sure that we know what the laws are so that we dont run into any more situations blind.

A: You have the freedom of speech. The first amendment of the United States Constitution guarantees that you can go anywhere the public can travel and you’re free to speak about your chosen subject. Your freedom of religion allows you to practice your faith how you choose in any place open to the public or private if you are invited. No one can block you or prevent you from exercising either of your freedoms of religion or your freedom of speech guaranteed by the First Amendment.
