Leawood, KS asked in Family Law for Missouri

Q: We have added my fiancé to my sons birth certficiate. What are our rights if someone petitioned for visitation rights?

My sons bio father was very mean and abusive. During those times I lost my brother and was addicted to pain pills with the bio father. I had a mental breakdown and the family made it worse. We did not feel safe there anymore. My son, Tucker, was almost 2. I had been clean for 1 year. We kicked him out of our house. I continued with my job. I got into a relationship with an amazing guy. Through the past 3 years he has earned the title Dad and we have added him to the birth certificate. He has helped me heal from that disaster and has stayed by Tucker’s and I’s side when I was hospitalized (twice in the past three years). During the past 3 years we have made a safe/clean/and stable environment for him. I have started to see a psychiatrist and am taking medications for stress. I am doing my best and stress out thinking about bad people trying to be in my babies life. They have threatened me and I’ll be damned if that happens after 3 years of security! The bio father is completely unfit!
