Methuen, MA asked in Child Custody for Massachusetts

Q: I have full custody of my son. Physical and legal. He has court ordered supervision only a few hours on Sunday. Ive

Allowed him to visit more on the weekends due to trying to help their relationship. I acquired custody 10 years ago and he on his own terms surrendered all custody to me then. The extra time hasn't worked and my son is 12 now and wants to stop visitation due to his father being a very volatile and extremely hard person to get along with. I encourage him to go and try to get along and try to see the positive sides of him and help with the not so positive sides. I have never in my life have spoken bad about his father to him and I have always put my best foot forward to encourage a positive relationship. But it hasn't worked and my son is desperate not to go. He is wonderful and does go for me but I know he is so sad and isolated over there when he is there

And it breaks my heart. My question is what do I do? Id love to speak to him about these issues but he is frankly frightening to talk to and it never ends well. I'm just lost as to what my rights are. Thank you

A: Hello, you can file a modification of the visitation orders although you have not stated that father has been missing visitation or is abusive or neglectful or poses a risk to the child's safety or well-being either. If the child is truly having a problem with the visits you should have him seen by a therapist for the child to address his relationship with his father.
