Mountain View, AR asked in Contracts and Employment Law for Arkansas

Q: I have been terminated by my company who offered a one month severance. I have a signed contract calling for two years

The contract was signed by me and my company in 2004. It self-renewed every year unless voided by breaches by me. This has not happened. The company has undergone substantial change at the top during the last 6 months, and the new officers were apparently unaware of this contract. Apparently, they had an unsigned contract of file. The notice of termination states I am terminated as of 1/1/2018.

Should I even acknowledge the notice of termination until I speak with an attorney?

Should I inform them of the existence of my signed contract?

It is the weekend and New Year, so it is difficult to find someone to consult on this. I don't want to say or do the wrong thing or anything that will hamper any claims I have.
