Massapequa, NY asked in Car Accidents for New York

Q: I recently got into an accident and my car was towed to a towing company and I had few questions.

I am a resident living in New York and the rates of the towing are the following:

Mileage Charge = 30 dollars

Towing Charge = $175 * 2 = $350

Road Service Charge = $100

Storage Charge = $350

Clean up = $45

Yard = $85

So my question is, what exactly is the road service charge? Doesn't that cover the whole clean up and yard business? I was confused with the clean up and yard portion as well and the particular difference between the road service charge and the stated fees. Also, for the towing charge, I was charged $175 for moving my car to the actual destination and another $175 when the auto shop company owner moved my car inside his shop so that I can total my car. The name of the company is Trinity's Mineola Jericho Auto Body. Also, what are the mileage rates in New York? The total traveled distance from the site of the location was in between 2.4-3.1 miles and I was charged with 30 dollars. The accident vehicle is a 2007 Camry. I feel like I was overcharged significantly.

A: Assume you paid it. Now feel free to contest it. It is highway robbery, but usually it's legal.However a second charge for the auto body? Nah. Especially not that rate. File a complaint with the NY AG's Consumer division and with whatever department regulates towing operators.
