Hollywood, FL asked in Divorce, Family Law, Child Custody and Child Support for Florida

Q: I am disabled and I want to divorce my husband, we have a 12 year old, what happens then?

I can not work because of my condition (fibromyalgia), but I am able to take care of my child, just not financially. I want a divorce. My concern is my financial situation so I could give my child a good life without having to be next to her father. We been married for 26 years. I have been receiving SSI for over 10 years. How can I live with just my daughter and myself? I need to know what are my financial benefits to be able to provide for my daughter.

A: Depending on your husband's income you may receive alimony. Child support will be calculated based on each of your incomes. The starting point for your assets and liabilities is to divide them in half.
