Asked in Real Estate Law, Tax Law and Probate for Florida

Q: My parents owened a house in fla. They divorced. Had a house in VA and fla. Both were suppose to be sold. Fla one did no

Both of my parents are now deceased. My father had a wife that resides in the house. Her name is not on the house in fla. She is wanting to get her name on the deed. Half of the house belongs to my step father which he will sign over to me. Her lawyer says I will have to pay back nonhomestead taxes that my mom owes. I don't think she would owe since the house was suppose to have been sold per their divorce decree. I want her to pay us for half of the house like it was suppose to have been done years ago. She was also suppose to have let me get some of the things of my father's that were his parents and the monies that was left to my father after my grandmother's death. That money was to be given to me and my nieces. The amount of that was $18000. Just need to know what I can do or what rights I may have. My father did not have a will!! Thanks in advance!! I was born in Florida not for sure if that accounts for anything. Thank u for your time.
