Dahlonega, GA asked in Traffic Tickets for Georgia

Q: I am 33 years old and have 2 traffic violations in my past that has me disqualified for life from getting a CDL license.

Is there any way to get past this? I would like to advance my job choices, but this problem is stopping me cold.

A: According to DDS, with proof of rehabilitation, you can get your CDL back. The problem is that DDS, to my knowledge, has never defined what proof of rehabilitation is. However, sometimes you can attack the old convictions to see if you there is a way to change those so that your CDL can be reinstated. Get a copy of your driving history (from DDS - they have it online), a copy of your criminal history (from any Georgia Sheriff's Department), and a copy of the sentence from the your two old traffic violations (from the court(s) where the tickets were). I can review those and see if there is a way to attack the old convictions.
