Q: Hi my dad bought a house a couple yrs ago and just found out there is no permits. Is the anything he can do?

Bought in 2015 from a guy that said the only unpermitted structure was the enclosure of the back patio. He has refinanced the house too. He found out because the property came with solar so he went to add more recently and the city said this is supposed to only be land. No structure is permitted here. They are going to make his tear down everything on his property the house, sheds, house stables everything. What can he do. This isn't right. Without the structures he owes wayyy more then its worth.

A: That is a very serious situation. There is a lot to look into here, and your dad should get on this right away with a qualified real estate attorney. Of course, if the seller knew about the situation, it is a very clear case of fraud against him. But there are a lot of questions as to how it could have gone this far without being discovered earlier.
