Jacksonville, FL asked in Business Law and Employment Law for Florida

Q: Can a company require you to pay them back for training they provided for a job if you quit/get fired?

Mobile dog grooming company will pay me 9$/hr for 5 days of training and pay the trainer $25/day plus whatever dogs I do in those 5 days. They have a contract that says if I quit/get fired within 2 years I have to pay back between 25% and 100% of my pay from training plus the trainers $125. Can this be upheld in a court. I am in Florida

A: Potentially yes. But no way to say for sure without first reviewing the contract.
