Smyrna, GA asked in Child Support, Family Law and Child Custody for Georgia

Q: Can i sign my rights over for a child ?

i have a 10 year old child who i havent seen since he was 1 or 2. i have to pay child support monthly, his mother is remarried and the child looks at him as his father . i have another child with my wife now and i want to know can i sign my writes over to the first child since we have no relationship and no desire to have a relationship. His mother has stated that her husband wanted to adopt him and asked me to sign papers i agreed to do so now she has changed her mind cause she wants my money. Can i sign them over my self because there is no relationship with the child?. it would be in the best interest for my family because i could use that child support money towards my family

A: Signing over your rights will not absolve you from your support obligation.
