Q: Will my refund be taken if my husband owes back child support from a different state then I live in now

He had a kid with someone else during our marriage . She put him on child support and he owes back support . He lives in Texas and I'm in Georgia. Will i have to pay his back child support with my refund or only his . Even if we file separately. I want to know if i file my taxes without him will I keep my refund or will the irs go e it to the other mom.

A: Talk to your tax professional - if you file separately you should be fine. The IRS will only take a joint return, not a return in your name only. Make sure you do not deposit funds into a joint account, because they can garnish joint accounts as well.
