Atlanta, GA asked in Family Law and Child Support for Georgia

Q: baby daddy owes more than $20K in arrears, found out he bought 2 luxury cars and a truck. can I do anything?

baby daddy got a settlement for a workers comp lawsuit. he has about 5 open child support cases all in arrears. I was given $7000 towards what he owes directly from the settlement. just found out he bought 2 (used) luxury cars worth almost $30K along with a work truck probably about 25K. he is about to start his own business, can child support do anything to make him pay his arrears?

A: File a contempt. Once you get a contempt order you can take that and get a writ of fieri facias or "fi fa" to levy the property. Talk to private counsel about doing this, as child support enforcement won't put forward this kind of effort to levy property.

A: You need to hire an attorney to help you with filing a contempt. The court may make him pay a large sum or go to jail, and your attorneys fees would be reimbursed.
