Cypress, CA asked in Health Care Law and Criminal Law for California

Q: My room mate went to the hospital suddenly do to a massive heart attack and ended up needing immediate heart surgery.

The financial advisor lady at the hospital signed him for medi-cal and added him to my existing medi-cal case with my 2 kids and I. We both signed the paper and at the time I did not realize that she had put my last name on the paper as my room mates last name. Now we are being investigated for medi-cal fraud. I don't have money for an attorney obviously I'm collecting money from the county. We have since been evicted from where we live due to not being able to pay the rent since my room mate is now disabled. What do I do?

A: You can start by going back to that hospital to their billing department and correct the record there. Make sure that you provide them accurate information concerning you and your own family, and tell them at the other person was only a roommate and is not a relative. I don’t know what kind of impression you made on the person who signed your roommate up, but you have to be careful to make sure that you are not related to the roommate who needed the heart surgery.

A: you should contact a legal aid office in your area for assistance and explain what you are saying here.
