Lake Mary, FL asked in Landlord - Tenant for Florida

Q: Can’t get a hold of landlord for final walkthrough/key handoff

My husband and I have been trying for three weeks to schedule a final walkthrough with the management company and to give over the keys for this upcoming Friday (2 days from now/the end of our lease). We have called, left voicemails, emailed and even texted, but they have not returned our correspondences. (The management company has been a problem since day one with correspondence and professionalism. We honestly are worried about their moral standing and if they will try to be dishonest yet again.)

What would be our next step in order to make sure the keys are returned and the state of our apartment is officially recorded as to not accrue and inaccurate withholdings from our security deposit? Are there any suggestions? Thank you.

A: Take many photos of the premises with a time stamp. Also include a video of possible with a time stamp and state on the video the current date and the circumstances upon which you are making this recording. Then mail to the management office via certified U.S. Mail return receipt the keys to the premises. Provide them inside the mailed package a letter fully explaining why the keys are being mailed and provide your best contact phone and address of where the deposit may be mailed. Hope this helps.
