Chicago, IL asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: I received my first speeding ticket for doing 27mph over the limit, what’s the best case scenario for me? (21 yrs old)

I know I would like to hire an attorney for my case, so would it be possible to avoid conviction and suspension of license all together? I’m okay with paying the mandatory fines I would really just like to avoid all negative consequences on my record.

A: This charge is subject to supervision if you have never had supervision before or been convicted before of this charge, which is speeding more than 25 over the limit.

Right now it is a crime. if a lawyer can get it reduced to a traffic ticket, that would be worthwhile.

A: You are facing a Class B Misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to 6 months in jail and up to $1,500.00 in fines not including mandatory fees and costs. This is a criminal offense and a conviction will cause you issues with employment, education and housing. An attorney should be able to minimize all of these issues for you but you should not hesitate in hiring an attorney. The sooner you hire an attorney the better.
