Wartburg, TN asked in Child Support for Tennessee

Q: My son turned 18 in January and graduates in May. My ex is stoping child support in May. How can I appeal it?

He has always paid but not helped out much. He does carry Insurance and pays cell phone bill. But thats it. He pays about 500 a month and I want to appeal the stop on the child support. I think he should pay until he graduates TTC.

A: Tennessee law provides that the obligation to pay child support terminates when the child turns age 18 OR when the child graduates from high school, whichever event is the last to occur. Sorry, but unless your husband already agreed in the divorce papers to pay for college, etc, then you cannot make him pay child support beyond the high school graduation.
