Q: how old do i have to be to choose which family character to have custody of me in north carolina?

see,when i was child i was abused.then my grandfather and grandmother got custody of me.then when i was 8,my grandmother divorced my grandfather and left.so it was jsut me and my grandfather.then now im 14,he just got remarried.i dont like it at home,all i do is get fussed and pulled and feel depressed and lonely and stay shut up in my room.ive wanted to live with my dad forever now by i cant my grandfather wont let me.im only happy with my dad and stepmother.

A: You do not get to choose who has custody of you. As you get older, your opinion may be taken into consideration and who you prefer may end up being selected but it will never be your choice. If you want to live with your dad, he will likely need to be the one to start that legal process unless your grandfather will consent.You may have to deal with it until you turn 18 at which point you can make your own life decisions.
