Richmond, CA asked in Traffic Tickets for California

Q: Is this legal in California? Uber charges fines on the driver's acc. and refuses to show the fine or the reason for.

I stopped working for Uber in Dec. 2016 and now in 2018 I find out they charging me $100 for a supposed fine that I got at the California SFO. I tried to talk to Uber for several times for an explanation, And they refuse to give me any explanation about this fine including the correct day of the fine. This is what they told me in the last email after I told them that I need more information about this fine to appeal to it in court. ( I understand your frustration here. SFO officers are particularly strict when monitoring the airport. The reason you weren’t given a ticket in person is because airport citations are administrative violations. They don’t go on your record and they are not disputed in court as you might with a regular traffic violation.) I spoke with other drivers who told me this is a common practice of Uber and in some cases the fine show to the driver many months after the occurrence and that the SFO sends the fine to Uber and the only option we drivers have is pays.

A: more info is needed

you need to contact a lawyer in Northern Calif that might be familiar with policies in SF.

i am assuming they are non driving fines?

if Uber is doing something wrong you might get a group/class of drivers to ban together and retain a lawyer. if you are fighting over $100 it does not make sense to spend your money on a lawyer unless you can find one that will handle on a contingency.

you could also fine in small claims against Uber
