Q: on probation for trafficking- driving with no drivers license
my son wants me to let him drive my vehicle the back way to the junkyard to haul a load of scrap, he is on probation in ohio for trafficking in meth, a felony. I know he cannot drive my vehicle, but he says if he gets pulled over he wont go to jail for probation violation, and that theres no chance of me losing my truck. I say hes wrong. Is driving without a license a probation violation in Ohio which would make him go back to jail?
A: Driving without a license would be a violation of his probation though probably not a real serious one. You, however, could be charged criminally with an offense called negligent entrustment for knowingly allowing an unlicensed driver to use your vehicle. You are right to say no.
