Chicago, IL asked in Employment Law for Illinois

Q: Can a job use information received from a private conversation I had with someone without my consent and terminate me.

i was a janitor at a school I made the mistake of of getting friendly with and taking a 19yo student to the doctor because she said she had no other way there. During our ride we talked about things of a sexual nature of which she initiated. We continued conversation via text and Unknowing to me she was recording me and then text me a demand that I pay her or she was going to tell the school. I didn't pay her and she took copies of out text and recorded conversation to the school and i was teminated based on what she gave them. I can accept the termination but can they use private conversation against me in my reference trying to get another job because the letter they mailed me stated I was fired for sexual acts. I did not give my permission to have our private conversations/text recorded.
