Aurora, CO asked in Criminal Law for Georgia

Q: My name is xxxx and there has recently been a misdemeanor warrant issued for my arrest.

I believe that without proper representation I will fall victim to the imperfections of our Justice system due to my financial situation (having come from a low-income household). I am currently a resident in Colorado, but shortly before I moved from Georgia I was unfortunately present when my company decided it was a good idea to shoplift. I was unaware of the situation until I was detained at the door, where the store manager and another employee proceeded to search and question me.They became especially irritated when they found I wasn’t in possession of any stolen merchandise. I continued to cooperate with store management, attempting to call and persuade the ignorant soul to return with any stolen merchandise. My efforts were unsuccessful which caused a state of panic. The store management seemed to go into a frenzy and begun making absurd threats toward me (if I was unable to make the thief return). I became frightened and felt that I had cooperated to the best of my abilities

A: I would encourage you to contact a lawyer in the jurisdiction where the warrant was issued. Once the warrant is issued it is virtually impossible to get it recalled without getting arrested. The local lawyer will best know how to proceed and arrange a time to turn in and arrange a bond so that any jail time is minimal. Once that is done the lawyer can defend you and possibly resolve the case with you having to return a second time. Usually misdemeanor theft warrants are not extraditable meaning you wont have a problem as long as you stay out of state, but eventually you will need to do something.
