Q: Do I have to pay for a job not fully completed?

Had a tree contractor remove all dead trees & wood and clear up brush. He has left two trees still standing and has not cleared any brush and it looks like bomb exploded branches etc. This was a cash deal with no contract or receipt. He wants payment in full but I don't want to pay for what he didn't do. Can I give him partial payment and the balance when he finishes the job which he said he would do in the Fall as it is only June that is a long time to wait. Please tell me where I stand I have not paid anything yet.

Thank You
