Houston, TX asked in Criminal Law for Texas

Q: Possible outcomes for being arrested and charged with 2 felony pos. while being on 3 years felony probation?

My cousin got arrested and is being charged with 2 felony possession of controlled substances. Before he started his 3 yr probation, he did about 6 months. While on probation he completed the classes, kept up with payments, but stopped seeing his PO after the classes were finished. He was roughly 6 months in to his probation time before he was recently arrested... his first court date is less than 2 weeks away and id like to know what're the possible outcomes.

A: Possible outcomes depend on the type and amount of drug your cousin was allegedly in possession of. If your cousin quit reporting to probation, expect a jail sentence to be recommended by the DA as a plea bargain offer. Good luck.

A: On the bad side, your cousin's existing probation on the first charge could be revoked, so that could mean serving up to the original sentence (the one that was probated.) Your cousin could also be convicted on the new charges and do time on them.

On the good side, you cousin could be continued on probation for the first charge and the new charges dismissed.

There is a also a chance that the actual result will be somewhere between the two extremes.
