Asked in Criminal Law, Employment Law and Sexual Harassment for Georgia

Q: A friend of mine became sexual with a professor of hers. Will he be fired for using authority as a teacher over her?

She thinks she may have been manipulated, even though her actions were consensual. He paid her for work in an art studio outside of school time. She began to like him and she started cheating on her boyfriend. This might destroy her relationship; she and her boyfriend have been together for nearly 4 years. She has reported the professor to the school. What is going to happen to him? Will he be fired?

A: The professor would not face any criminal charges for a consensual sexual act with a person over 16 years of age unless they are a high school teacher and the student is a student at the same school. Same rules do not apply to college aged individuals.
