Tulsa, OK asked in Child Custody for Oklahoma

Q: How should I conduct myself while having full custody?

Hello. Recently I separated from an abusive partner (not bombastic, our couples counselor said as much). We were never married and live in Oklahoma. According to the law, I have full custody rights of our 15-month-old son, at least as of now. He served me papers saying he is seeking full custodial/parental/legal rights, and want me to pay him child support. He makes 60K more than I do, I worked PT and was mostly a stay at home mom. He is aggressively trying to keep him every night. I would like to know how I should allow him to see our son overnight, if at all, during this time that I have full custodial rights to our son. We have our initial court summons in August, and until then would like to know what I should or should not be doing as the parent with full custody rights in regards to letting my son stay with/see his Dad during this time.

A: There are many factors that come into play when custody is contested and what you should be doing or not doing is going to be driven by the specifics of your situation. You are going to need a formal consultation with an attorney in your local area to discuss this matter in detail. Once the attorney has a complete history and specific facts unique to your situation they will be able to answer all of your questions.
