Lomita, CA asked in Car Accidents for California

Q: I am a new lyft driver in Los Angeles and was hit by a car being chased by the lapd.

I had 2 passengers in the car at time, how do I stand legally? One of my passengers said that as the helicopter was following why were they still chasing, if they c were not being chased they may not have tried to take corner so fast and cross over to my side of the road and hit me. The police officer later told me the car was full of kids 5 in total. My car had to be towed as is probably totalled. I found the scariest part after the initial impact was the bracing for in pending impacts from the following 5 or more police vehicles, thankfully they all managed to avoid me.

A: This is the time when having good insurance pays off. You are hurt by the negligence of the driver that was being pursued by the police. submit your police report to your insurance company and if you have a good policy with Med Pay, make sure all your passengers get treated and then consult with a local attorney to help you with your case, as you may stand a better chance to recover more monies for yourself and your passengers with a lawyer representing you.

It goes without saying, that In my 20 years of practice I have never had an insurance company come to me and beg me to take their maximum policy. there have been three exceptions and I did received the maximum $15k policy in situations where my clients' damages exceeded the policy values several times over. Best of luck!!!!

A: You won't be collecting from the other driver - most likely. If you have collision coverage, it will apply to repair or total loss your vehicle, less your deductible. If you have UIM coverage, it will compensate you for your bodily injuries, and will compensate your passengers, too. Get needed medical attention and then talk to an attorney.
