Q: My landlord sold the house we live in without any notice and the new owner is not giving us a 60 day eviction. Fair?

My family and I are trying to find out what is a possible outcome for us, judging that we never got an actual pre sale notification from the previous owner. It was informed to us that is was a word of mouth deal since the property was never placed on the market so therefore we weren't aware of the buy and sale. So, at this point we are just wondering if its fair to maybe buy a bit more of time since he [the new owner] is not willing to cut a deal for us to maybe stay and rent from him. Is there anything that we can possibly do in this situation?

A: Assuming you have lived there more than a year, you are entitled to a 60 day notice of termination of tenancy from the new owner. If you have a lease, you can stay through the end of the lease term. Of course, you still have to pay rent and comply with any other valid terms of your tenancy. A letter from an attorney on your behalf may do the trick.
