Dallas, TX asked in Child Support for Louisiana

Q: Child is adopted, 18, and graduated high school. The mother went through Dcfs for child support. Is it mandatory to pay

I never wanted to give my parenal rights up, but the mother took everything from me until I did. Come to find out my lawyer at that time was on her side. I had some hard times on making payments in the past due to my health. But I haven't heard a word from anyone for about three year for the back child support. I just got married not even 3 weeks yet. All of a sudden I'm getting certified letter from Dcfs wanting to suspend my license. I need some help with this.

A: If the support she's trying to recover is "back-due" (was owed before your rights were terminated), then you still owe it.

A: They can go back 10 years on child support. If she/and the state didn't waive arrears, then you are still on the hook. You and your wife need a post-nuptial agreement to protect your wife from your ex seizing her tax refunds.
