Vallejo, CA asked in Animal / Dog Law for California

Q: My dog was stolen from a camp site. Then the next day I find out the truck was stolen and he abandoned my dog and truck

I found my dog at a shelter all though her picture wasn't on the dog site for the facility. When I called and described my dog she said it wasn't there.then I described the situation, she put me on hold came back and said yes indeed my dog and the one that she was picked up with we're both there. Then the sherrifs office called me at my home. Asking me questions. Am I in any way responsible for the information about that stolen truck. I didnt know it was stolen. And I gave them what information I had on the driver.can they keep my dog in that shelter or will they give me her back.?

A: It's unclear if you have gone to the shelter to claim the dog and, if so, what the response of the shelter was. That would be a first step.
