Logan, WV asked in Family Law and Child Custody for Kentucky

Q: I'm turning 16 in a few days and want to get emancipated. Would I be able to?

I'm turning 16 in a few days and want to get emancipated. I've been in two custody battles this year and it makes 3 in total. Social workers won't really talk to me and I'm in an abusive household where I'm constantly being degraded and things get thrown at me and I get blamed for everything, even if my guardian saw someone else do it. Would I qualify for emancipation? There are others willing to testify the abuse happening, and I already have people willing to let me stay with them until I'm able to get my own place. I have been in a stablization faculty twice, once for a letter I wrote to friends saying that they keep me going in rough times, and the second was in court when I stated I didnt want to go home because I didn't think i could take it anymore. The ladt time i was there I was stuck there for a long time because no one really wanted to take me "home". Would this hurt my chances of emancipation?

A: Possibly. You should contact legal aid or the local bar association in your area to find an attorney to help you seek emancipation.
