Q: When can an abandoned animal be removed from an apartment where tenants have been evicted?
My company manages residential properties, and a tenant that was evicted/has not paid rent due has disappeared and left all their belongings, including two pet birds. As of now the birds are getting food and water from a maintenance person. I am told we "cannot enter," and all property including the birds will go to auction in a few weeks. That is a long time to leave them in there.
A: Call Animal Control. It can enter with a warrant or under exigent circumstances.
