Bronx, NY asked in Personal Injury for New York

Q: Hi i was scheduled for an arthoscopy and after 4 hours of waiting.. I was told no because i had no one to take me home.

I feel humiliated. I am raising 2 special needs young adults. I am alone i have no one. Period. I took the time off work. Waited an entire month to have the procedure. The injury took place in May. I checked in, vital signs, undressed and waited for 4 hrs. When the anesthesiologist showed up.. She kept asking me is there anyone? No. The offerred service for Partners on care. I was not paying 110.00 to have someone for 4 hours i dont need. I am not 65. Im 48.

She explained to me i had one other option.. A spinal, in place of the General Anesthesia. I was going to consider then we were interrupted then i was told a decision from the HIGHER UPS said they werent gonna touch me. I was hurt and humiliated. I was told HIT THE HIGH ROAD AND GOOD LUCK in layman terms. This is my Acl sprained left knee. Is this a normal practice? I just want to kerp my knee a little longer.

A: Yes, because they are worried you will pass out due to late effect of anesthesia or surgery, hit your head and then they will be sued. In fact your preop said you needed a ride home. That is standard practice even for root canal.

So I wouldn't feel humiliated. You just need to have a cab, something lined up.

This isn't a legal case or even a complaint case.

But no, they won't let you in if your plan was to take the bus home.

A: Facilities take such measures to avoid liability for any injuries that could result from not having good arrangements to be taken home.
