Columbus, OH asked in Traffic Tickets for Ohio

Q: 16-year-old in rush hour stop-and-go traffic on major Cbus interstate, rear ended another driver. Likely consequence?

Nearing an exit, couldn’t stop quickly enough when other driver braked suddenly. No airbag deployment. Bumper nearly off on other car, minimal damage to our car. Uses car to go to school and music lessons. Hearing different recommendations on pleading guilty or not (how can you even say not guilty for this?), and not sure of expected results. Was hoping to get a job, which requires car.

A: "Not guilty" remains the starting point no matter how guilty you are. If there was insurance and a proper license in place, this will be no big deal. The court will want to make sure the victim is whole, and give your kid a fine. Your insurance carry may increase your rates, and that will be it. If there was not insurance, it becomes much more serious.
