Washington, DC asked in Consumer Law for Maryland

Q: Do i have grounds for a law suit against Roberts HomeMedical for deceptive business practice. I live in Maryland.

I was refered to Roberts Home Medical for a cpap machine. On October 23,2018, someone by the name of Brad call me to set up delivery of cpap machine. Never spoke to them before this date. Brad refused to tell me the cost of the machine, he refuse to tell me what my 20% would be, he refused to go over the billing details with me at all. He did tell me that a $45 advance payment was do and $44 monthly. I spoke to someone else and they said the monthly payment would be $5 a month for 10 months on rental after that the machine would be mine. Brad blately refuse to tell me any other billing information. I do not know what my 20% will be. All i have is the machine and no other billing information was given to me from this company. I ask two other people within the company and they did not give me information either. Is it not the responsible of the company to go over all billing details with me before we go into any kind of agreement. Do i have grounds for a law suit.

A: This sounds like potentially a violation of the Maryland Consumer Protection Act, in that the company may have acted deceptively in their sales practices. Whether it is worth a lawsuit is another question, which you might discuss with an attorney that practices in the area of consumer rights. Alternatively, you might complain to the MD Attorney General.
