Q: Seismic Retrofitting and Vehicles

Hello. My apartment building will soon be undergoing seismic retrofitting. We have been told that we'll need to move all vehicles from our covered and gated parking spots for at least one month between the hours of 8am and 4:30pm Monday through Friday. I work from home so don't drive during the day.

I have a brand new car and two motorcycles. I definitely do not want to park any of them on the street on a daily basis. (This isn't the best neighborhood). And my insurance understands that I'm in gated, covered parking spaces with all vehicles. Do I have any rights with regard to renting a storage space for the vehicles for that month and deducting the cost from my rent?

Part of the reason I selected this apartment is due to the gated and covered parking.

Thanks.

A: You will need to consult with a tenant's rights attorney. Bring a copy of your lease.
